KARAGIOZIS OF ALL TRADES 12th July (“Parko Falirou” park)

“A long time ago there were professions that don’t exist anymore. An old friend of ours was looking for a job to support his three kids…”

The play is about Kargiozis’s journey back in time, where he meets old professions. You get the chance to see thirty fine hand-made figures, listen to traditional music and songs, as well as to Eugenios Spatharis’s beloved voice, that can be heard in the narrative parts of the play. Furthermore, Karagiozis-player Tassos Konstas takes you on a nostalgic trip with the curtain, presenting to our youngsters old forgotten professions.

ATHENIAN MARIONETTES: “RUBBISH-COUNTRY S.O.S.” 14th July (“Parko Falirou” park)

In our city everything is covered in rubbish; flowers, bushes, grass… The Mayor and the city councilors are desperate. Only “ECO”, a peculiar toy from recycled material, found among other rubbish, knows the secret. The rubbish “living” in the stinking dump must prove that they are not useless and mustn’t die. The triptych “reduce – re-use – recycle” must become known, for the sake of everybody and the one of the environment. The rubbish will introduce Eva to the secrets and benefits of recycling (see above triptych). Finally Eva, with the help of the children-public, will influence the Mayor; with their help recycling starts and everything, including the citizens’ way of life, changes.

THEATRE NEPHELES: “KOU-KOU” 14th July (“Parko Falirou” park)

A surprising fairy tale is unfolding in front of the young audience’s eyes – a magical story: animate and inanimate, people and objects. Fantasy mixes up with reality, thus producing vivid pictures and a dream atmosphere. It’s a play about team-work and friendship. The story is based on the fact the children tend to give to inanimate objects human characteristics. So, one night, when everybody in the house is asleep, the kitchen cupboard and its residents (salt, pepper, tea etc.) come to life and have a party, like they do on every other night. However, their feast is interrupted abruptly when their friend the cuckoo gets hoarse and is most likely to be dumped by the persons who live in the house. The solution holds a new, unexpected visitor…

IOANNA MAMAKOUKA: “WE SHALL TRAVEL AROUND THE WORLD” 15th July (“Parko Falirou” park)

It’s a theatre play with marionettes, where the puppet player’s body itself is the decoration and her hands the faces.

A story teller who has travelled around a lot arrives, carrying her suitcase, which during the performance becomes a house, later a wardrobe, while her cape transforms into a night forest…. She tells the story of Tom-Thumb. But what is the true story? Does he get lost in the forest? Does he get lost because the way he follows vanishes? Does he get lost while playing in his grandmother’s closet? Or does he land on a bird’s wings to travel and meet the world? With the help of the children, who share musical instruments, the story-teller presents the forest in which Tom-Thumb disappears. He himself becomes the star of the performance, by sliding out of her sleeve. The pebbles however are swallowed by a strage bird, Nadou…

KROUSTOPHONO: “JAZZA-MARES” 15th July (“Parko Falirou” park)

Saying that this children’s musical performance is trying to bring the youngsters close to Jazz music is simply not enough.  The start was made by its creators, basing on ideas, music and songs by Gijom Sharpottie, but very soon they were drifted away in the children’s world where music gets whatever dimensions and colours we want…. The play is addressed mainly to 8-16 years-old children, but any age could join in this interactive happening.
